New Brunswick RCMP investigate fatal shooting of 52-year-old in Pointe-Sapin


POINTE-SAPIN-CENTRE, N.B. — RCMP in New Brunswick say they are investigating a homicide following a shooting in a community on the province’s northern coast.

A news release says officers were called to a home on Route 117 in Pointe-Sapin around 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers allegedly found a 52-year-old dead in the home, although no details were provided about others who lived there.

Police say they found a 70-year-old suspect who was detained with help from a Parks Canada peace officer.

The man is now facing a murder charge and is scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court on Tuesday.

Police say the RCMP’s major crime unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with dashcam or security footage to come forward.
