SITUATION OVERVIEW

The health sector continues to pay a heavy price as gang violence continues to disrupt access to health services, particularly in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area (ZMPAP). The Haiti State University Hospital has remained closed since 30 March, while La Paix University Hospital (HUP), the largest functioning public hospital, is overwhelmed. The National Ambulance Centre’s (CAN) referral system continues to face challenges, as its personnel and ambulances have difficulties accessing gang-controlled areas.

More than 89,000 people (21,531 families) now live in 87, of whom 54% are women and 34% are children. About 32 percent of sites do not have latrines, according to the International Organization for Migration.

FUNDING

• The 2024 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) is just under 7 per cent funded.

• The UN Central Emergency Response Fund’s (CERF) 28 March allocation of US$12 million will go towards life-saving activities such as provision of food, water, protection, health care, and sanitation and hygiene support to benefit displaced people and host communities in Port-au-Prince and the neighbouring department of Artibonite, which has also been affected by the violence, as well as humanitarian air services.
