Dominica’s Thea LaFond-Gadson to compete at World Indoor Championships

The Commonwealth of Dominica will be looking on as its very own Thea LaFond-Gadson will represent her country at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.  

The event is scheduled for March 1 to 3, 2024. 2024.  

She will compete in the indoor Women’s Triple Jump, an event that showcases the world’s best triple jumpers. 

The Dominica Amateur Athletic Association said Thea qualified to compete in the event with a massive leap of 14.90m at last year’s World Athletics Outdoor Championships which was held in Budapest, Hungary.  

Currently, she is ranked second on the global rankings with a jump of 14.60m.  

LaFond-Gadson is seeking to become the country’s second World Athletics Championship Medalist and improve on her fourth-place position at the last edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships held two years ago in Belgrade, Serbia.  

Dominica secured its first and only World Athletics Championship medal in 1995, when Jerome Romain Jumped 17.59m to secure bronze in the Men’s Triple Jump event at Göteborg, Sweden. 

LaFond-Gadson is set to compete on Sunday, March 3 at 6:18 am (local time) amongst a field of 15 other competitors. 

World Athletics certified/ senior coach Aaron Gadson will perform coaching and management duties while at the Championships.  

The pair departed on Sunday, February 25 to Glasgow and will run through an acclimatisation routine before the event.
