In a statement, the Presidency said that the reappointment of Adelino Muchanga was made after hearing from the Superior Council of the Judicial Magistracy.
“The reappointment of Adelino Muchanga to the position of president of the Supreme Court is made by the head of state, after the legal term established in number 1 of article 53 of Law number 24/2007, of August 20”, explains the Presidency.
That article of the law on judicial organization defines that the president and vice-president of the Supreme Court “are appointed by the President of the Republic, for a five-year renewable term”, and that the act of appointment “is subject to ratification by the Assembly of the Republic”.
Adelino Manuel Muchanga, 50, has been president of the Supreme Court of Mozambique since 2014, having been reappointed to the position in 2019 by Filipe Nyusi.
